Costa Rica Transportation

Since Costa Rica is a small country transportation options inside the country are numerous. From getting around by bus, to enlisting the services of a van and driver, to chartering a domestic air flight.

Due to Costa Rica’s weather conditions and climate the country has been divided into six different regions. These are: The Central Valley, Central Pacific, Northern Pacific, Southern Pacific, Northern Zone and the Caribbean Zone. In any of these areas you will find exotic and tropical tourist locations. Car Rentals all over the country and airports offer 4x4 vehicles for your transportation adventure. Lush tropical vegetation and exotic fauna will always be part of the landscape as you drive through the countryside. If you plan to take short trips then a sedan vehicle will be good enough, driving through different towns will be a rewarding experience. Even motorcycle lovers can rent a bike; feel the tropical wind blow in your face as you ride through a picture postcard scenario.

On a business trip to Costa Rica you can have a limousine pick you up at the airport upon your arrival or they can meet you at your hotel. Whether on a business trip, or on your honeymoon, a limousine can pick you up at the airport.

A private shuttle bus can take you and seven more passengers to your beach hotel or to any other accommodation. The driver will not only know the route to your destination but will show you points of interest along the way. If you need to be driven around the Central Valley you can choose the option of hiring private transportation with a driver who will personally make sure that you are early for any meeting or appointment. Make sure you ask your driver to take you to downtown San Jose. Ticos are so friendly and proud of their country that your driver might even have other amazing locations to show you.

Air: SANSA and Nature Air are the domestic carriers with regular flights from San Jose to prime tourist destination. There are buses from the two aiports in San Jose to the center. A number of smaller airlines provide domestic charter flights as well. There are over 200 small airfields throughout the country. Here you will also find Costa Rica’s highest peak, Cerro Chirripo that rises 12, 530 feet (3,820 meters) above sea level. When choosing domestic air transportation you will fly over these amazing views and other magnificent peaks. Domestic flights depart from either Juan Santamaria International in Alajuela or Tobias Bolanos National Airport in Pavas. Flying to any destination in Costa Rica will not exceed 50 minutes. Transportation can be arranged from your hotel to the airport and from your arrival point to your hotel. If you fly early in the morning the weather conditions will be the best to take in Costa Rica's beauty from the air.

Taxis: Within San Jose: can be hailed or ordered by telephone; have white number plates. When taking taxis within the city limits, make sure the electronic meter is used.

Busses: Costa Rica has an extensive, relatively efficient and cheap bus system serving the metropolitan area and most of the country.
